About the Author
Meet John D. McCoy
John D. McCoy is a lawyer, writer, husband, father, and grandfather who has spent much of his life studying people at their best, worst, funniest, strangest, and most desperate.
A former Assistant Professor of Business Law at Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School, John has spent decades in courtrooms, classrooms, and conversations where ambition, fear, loyalty, faith, pride, and temptation are never far from the surface. Those experiences shape the world of the 13 Steps Trilogy, a suspenseful and darkly funny series about deals, consequences, and the dangerous bargains people make when they want something badly enough.
John’s stories mix legal tension, moral conflict, humor, and the supernatural, all grounded in characters who feel familiar because, in some way, we have all met them. Maybe we have even been them.
He lives on Cape Cod with his wife, Michele. When he is not practicing law or writing, he is usually thinking about the next story, the next strange character, or whether the devil would really put something in writing.
A story shaped by courtrooms, classrooms, faith, temptation, humor, and the strange things people do when they want something badly enough.
I didn’t come to writing from a quiet cabin in the woods. I came to it from courtrooms, classrooms, late-night ideas, old stories, strange conversations, and the lifelong habit of wondering what people will do when temptation knocks.
The 13 Steps Trilogy grew out of that question. What would someone trade for success? What would they justify? What would they regret? And what happens when the bargain turns out to be more real than they expected?
This page is where I share the story behind the stories: the characters, the ideas, the writing process, the humor, the faith, and the odd little sparks that eventually become books.
